Would you wear this? Krispy Kreme’s grass flip flops

August 20th, 2008

krispy kreme grass flip flopsSo the whole donut thing wasn’t working out for you. Let’s try grass flip flops instead. Sure why not?

The Krispy Kreme company has taken the summery feeling of walking on a soft, cushiony grass and put it into flop form. You will need to “grow” your flip flops because they are, obviously, really grass. What’s great is you don’t need to worry about stepping on the pile that your neighbor’s dog left in your yard or a lingering bumblebee hovering around the weeds that have accumulated.

Yeah so growing your own flip flops… would you wear this?

Nicholas Kirkwood’s collections

August 19th, 2008

nicholas kirkwood bootieBrit designer Nicholas Kirkwood is already in high demand, quite a feat for someone just shy of 30. Upon releasing his own collection in 2005, he was an instant hit and both designers and the public wanted more, more, more.

In the last three years since his debut, Kirkwood has been sorting through the invitations and offers and finally, in 2009 three of his highly anticipated collections will arrive.

Alberta Ferretti snagged him for her own Spring 2009 shows; her self titled collection has well as her Philosophy line. Italian house Pollini has also tapped into Kirkwood’s unique style to breathe new life into their brand. To top it all off, Kirkwood’s on self titled line will also be introducing new styles come next year. Looking forward to it.

Shoe study: Marie Antoinette

August 18th, 2008

shoe and gartersIt is unclear what Marie Antoinette is most remembered for her: hedonistic lifestyle; for her fashion; or for the way she spent her final moments.

Though we are certainly fascinated by all three, or rather, Marie’s life on the whole, we can say with ease her fashion sense and decadent ensembles are what draws us most.

Recently in France, a private family chateau in the beautiful Loire Valley has opened their 18th century collection of afaded shoes very minuet part of Marie Antoinette’s many wears to the public. Though the collection is in good shape for its age, you can only imagine how deliciously gorgeous all of these hand stitched, custom shoes were in their prime.

Unfortunately these and just a few other items are all that is left of Marie’s show collection. After the royal family was pushed from their home, much of her wardrobe was looted and very little remains. There is also another single shoe at the Musee Carnavalet in Paris, which in fairytale fashion, Marie lost when her family fled from those that stormed their castle.

marie antoinette movie shoesAlthough they aren’t the real thing, the shoes made by Manolo Blahnik for the Marie Antoinette movie are reproductions of the small items left behind of Marie’s magnificent wardrobe. They are a vision and really give a feel for what the Queen’s shoes looked like in their full glory.

If only we had a Queen that dressed in such a manner today…

The photos show some shoes from the collection as well as some from the recently made Sophia Coppola flick.

The Sacha Golden Heel Award goes to…

August 17th, 2008

julia eichlers winning shoeJulia Eichler.

Let’s back up. At Amsterdam Fashion Week, an award called the Sacha Golden Heel goes to the most innovative show designer of the year. This year that designer was Julia Eichler.

Judged on originality, design, development, vision, and presentation, her shoe stole the show and stomped the competition in practically every category. Not only did the shoe win the award, it will be sold in sacha stores in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium for a limited time.

Though I’m not sure how wearable it is, it is certainly a visionary step in the right direction and the judges did an excellent job awarding it.

New York Times: The Appeal of the Heel

August 16th, 2008

Recently, The New York Times, did a review of the city’s summer street wear called The Appeal of the Heel. As writer/narrator Bill Cunningham points out, he wanted to study the juxtaposition of women’s feet and what they’re putting on them. He came to the conclusion that trendy New York women are wearing:

• High heels with mini’s and short shorts.

• 2 inch platforms with 5 inch heels

• Wedges

• Greek revival

• Straps, straps, and more straps

He also makes it quite obvious that he thinks women are completely insane for wearing such covered and/or high shoes during the heat wave going on in the Northeast. We might be insane, but we sure look good!

Fergie reveals Brown Shoe collection

August 15th, 2008

fergie logoFergie’s sassy style is one of the most unique and coveted by fashionistas everywhere. People are always curious to see what she’ll do next. Her fearless style first awarded her with a bag collection for Kipling and now, a shoe collection with Brown Shoe Co.

Revealed at the World Shoe Association show in Las Vegas recently, her collection certainly reflects her personal style. There are many exotic, colorful, and playful styles – some feminine, some rock n’ roll, and some sporty like the Duchess herself.

After the show Fergie was quoted stating, “I have always loved fashion because it’s a great way to express your mood. And I’m definitely a shoe lover. The right pair of shoes can change the feel of an outfit, and even change how a woman feels about herself. A woman can wear confidence on her feet with a high stiletto, or slip into weekend comfort with a soft ballet flat.”

Her Brown Shoe collection shows that versatility and can work well for a variety of women. It debuts in stores in Spring 2009 and we have our fingers crossed it takes off for this budding designer.

Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington loves designer shoes

August 14th, 2008

rebecca adlingtonIt’s not the pride of winning that pushed British swimmer Rebecca Adlington to become the first woman in almost fifty years to win a gold in swimming for her country. Oh no, not at all. It’s actually two boys that she’s completely smitten; boys by the name of Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin.

Rebecca admitted in a recent interview, “Well, I was promised some Jimmy Choo shoes if I win, so that’s one pair … and my mum’s promised to get me another pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. I loooove shoes. I want one pair for every outfit. I’ve got well over 30 pairs but you can never have enough.”

We have our fingers crossed for Rebecca. We know if we see her win another gold, she’ll soon be getting a new pair of Louboutin’s and who wouldn’t route for that?

August 13th, 2008

whitney portThough we think the other Hills girls dress cute but are way overrated, Whitney is different. We love her unique style which is part casual Cali, part European lux. Check her out at an event in an adorable liberty print dress with Nine West’s cool Therockett sandals.

We think Whitney is a girl who knows the importance of a good shoe. Get her look for yourself.

Rihanna Rocks

August 12th, 2008

rihanna studsPop songstress Rihanna recently opened up in an interview with In Style. But it’s not so much the words we’re delighted about as the shoes. Like her spiked hair and individual style, her shoerihanna 1 choices are part rocker, part avant-garde, part 80’s all rolled up into a flirty, feminine ball.

We’re going to drop some designer names and then hope you feel the same way as we do – there is no stopping this girl and her killer sense of style.

Collections by Stride Rite

August 11th, 2008

collectionsStride Rite is stepping out of its children’s wear only shadow and into the light of pre-teen consumers. The brand is known for its excellent children’s shoes, perfect for ever growing tots. They have also recently added the teen set to their roster by providing customers with a variety of brands like Jessica Simpson and Airwalk. But what about those children in between?

The kids we’re talking about are those who are about 7 – 10 years old – children who are over, well, childhood but are not quite old enough to step into a teenager’s shoes. Stride Rite has come up with a solution for these youngsters by introducing the new Collections by Stride Rite retailer. Many brands significant to these age groups like Saucony, Keds, Lacoste, DC Shoes and of course Stride Rite will be available for purchase.

The first store is opening in New York City and more will follow in the coming months around the country.
